Squats: The Ultimate Functional Exercise

Squats offer many health benefits and if no injuries are in the way, they should be included in most, if not all, fitness routines. In addition to the obvious benefits squats have in building leg strength, here are some other benefits of this challenging exercise.

1. Building muscle in the entire body. When done with proper form, squats trigger the release of testosterone and human growth hormone. Both these hormones are essential for muscle growth and will help improve muscle mass when you train other parts of your body (Mercola, 2011).

2. Squats are an extremely functional exercise! By functional we mean an exercise that will allow the body to perform day to day exercises with more efficiency (not just make you better at operating a piece of gym equipment), such as walking up stairs, bending over to pick something up, moving furniture or even carrying a toddler on your back. Squatting is a natural human movement and has been since we were hunter gatherers (Mercola, 2011).

3. Injury Prevention. Most injuries from sports or athletic activity is a result of weak stabilizer muscles, ligaments and connective tissues, which squats on the Power Plate® will significantly improve.
