About SOSORT
The International Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT) is a leading international organization dedicated to advancing evidence-based non-operative care for individuals with scoliosis and structural changes of the spine. With a focus on collaboration, research, and education, SOSORT strives to improve the standard of care and quality of life for patients worldwide.
The roots of SOSORT trace back to January 2004, when nearly 100 clinicians convened in Barcelona, Spain, to address the challenges of conservative scoliosis treatment. Host and SOSORT Founder, Manuel Rigo, recalls the modest beginnings of the organization, initially formed without high expectations. However, the overwhelming turnout underscored the urgent need for collaboration and innovation in this field.
Over the years, SOSORT has spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives to improve patient care and promote evidence-based practices. One pivotal moment occurred in Milan, Italy, where the group convened in 2005 under the leadership of Stefano Negrini and his team. Together, they developed three consensus papers focusing on physiotherapy, bracing, and treatment objectives, which were subsequently published in the Scoliosis and Spinal Disorders journal.
In 2006, SOSORT officially emerged as an international society, with its inaugural meeting held in Poznan, Poland, hosted by Tomasz Kotwicki and Jacek Durmała. The society’s dedication to advancing non-operative care for scoliosis and spine structural changes was underscored by the publication of its first guidelines and the establishment of the Scoliosis Journal, with SOSORT founder Theodoros B. Grivas serving as the inaugural Editor-in-Chief.
“SOSORT represents a pioneering force in the field of conservative scoliosis treatment,” said [Speaker’s Name], [Speaker’s Title] at the recent event in Boston. “Our mission is to harness the collective expertise of clinicians and researchers worldwide to enhance the effectiveness of non-operative interventions and improve outcomes for individuals affected by spine structural changes.”
