Symmetry Health Center Turns 20!

This June, Symmetry Health Center proudly celebrates 20 years of serving our patients and community with compassionate, evidence-based care. We are incredibly grateful for the trust and support you have given us over the years.

The foundation of our practice has always been Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP®). Due to Dr. Boyd’s (Our Clinical Director and Founder) deep roots and training in this structural approach, CBP® has been the core specialty and guiding philosophy of Symmetry since the very beginning. Dr. Boyd started her chiropractic education in New Jersey under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas Dandrea, with whom she continues to collaborate today at the Monmouth Scoliosis Center in Wall, NJ. She also maintains an active New Jersey state chiropractic license to help manage patients in her home state. In addition, Dr. Boyd sits on the CBP® Non-Profit board and continues to teach at CBP® seminars, contributing to the advancement of the technique on a national and international level.

This strong foundation in evidence-based spinal correction and posture improvement remains at the heart of everything we do at Symmetry Health Center.

We first opened our doors in June of 2006 on Eagle Avenue in Alameda. In those early years, we became the first health care facility in the Bay Area to offer Power Plate® classes. These vibration therapy sessions were enthusiastically received, along with our dedicated weight loss program. We initially offered the Ideal Protein program and later transitioned to a more personalized and tailored weight loss plan based on each patient’s individual needs. Power Plate® technology proved so effective that we have since integrated it into all of our treatment plans, enhancing spinal correction, strength, balance, and overall wellness for our patients.mWe continue to offer nutritional support with high quality medical grade supplements and continue to use the InBody machine for body composition analysis.

These innovative services played a major role in our growth. As demand continued to increase, we moved to a larger location on Park Street in Alameda.

When we moved to Park Street, we added Symmetry Yoga — a brand-new studio featuring some of the best instructors in the Bay Area. The yoga studio quickly became a vibrant part of our practice that beautifully complemented our chiropractic care.

Then came the pandemic, which brought a major shift. We were designated an essential business and remained open to support many patients struggling with back pain and scoliosis when they needed care the most. This period reinforced our commitment to being there for our community during challenging times.

After the pandemic, we made a strategic decision to evolve. We transformed the former yoga studio space into the Bay Area Scoliosis Center. Today, this center has grown into a flourishing practice that serves people from all over the Bay Area, from other states, and even from different countries. Patients travel long distances to receive our specialized, conservative, non-surgical scoliosis care.

We have become known as one of the few practices that treats scoliosis effectively without relying on pain medication or surgery. While many people still associate scoliosis primarily with children, our practice is actually filled with adults seeking real solutions beyond conventional medical approaches. Our care seamlessly combines our long-standing expertise in Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP®) with advanced scoliosis-specific methods such as ScoliBrace® and ScoliBalance®, along with Power Plate® technology.

Our goal and mission has always been to stay firmly within the realm of evidence-based and research-supported care while offering cutting-edge therapies. This commitment has made our practice highly sought after, as this unique model has not been widely replicated.

June is also Scoliosis Awareness Month, making this anniversary an especially meaningful time for us. It’s the perfect moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and to reaffirm our commitment to educating, supporting, and advocating for individuals and families navigating scoliosis.

As we celebrate these 20 years, we are filled with deep gratitude. Thank you for being part of our journey — whether you’ve been with us since Eagle Avenue or have recently discovered us through the Bay Area Scoliosis Center. We look forward to continuing to support your health and wellness with the same dedication and care for many years to come.
