Treatment Helps You Stay Active as You Age
If you’re an older resident of Oakland, Alameda or the East Bay, you will be happy to learn that chiropractic treatment can help older people stay active and healthy, according to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Iowa.
The study in ncbi examined the medical records of over 1,000 senior citizens (age 70 and up) with a back-related condition that led to a Medicare claim. Researchers compared the experience of Medicare recipients who received chiropractic care to that of a group of Medicare recipients who did not receive chiropractic care. Results of the study were published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics in October 2014.
The researchers concluded that chiropractic care “is significantly protective” against a decline in activities that include daily living, lifting, stooping, walking, self-rated health, and worsening health after one year. In addition, the researchers reported, “chiropractic users have higher satisfaction with follow-up care and information provided about what is wrong with them.”
What is the secret behind chiropractic care?
As we get older, our spine degenerates. Spinal discs, facet joints, ligaments, muscles and other spinal tissues become weaker, less hydrated, more fibrotic, and less able to withstand normal stresses. We end up with inflammation (arthritis) and pain. We also endure misalignments of the cervical spine (the neck) – vertebrae that are shifted out of place – which can interfere with balance and coordination. That’s because misalignments exert excessive pressure on the delicate nerves flowing out of the spine, potentially blocking some of the messages being sent from the brain to the rest of the body.
Chiropractors are experts on the spine. And chiropractors trained in Chiropractic BioPhysics (CBP) can alleviate spinal misalignments and restore spinal health – so your body can function properly.
Dr. Cynthia Boyd and her team at Symmetry Health Center are among a handful of Oakland, Alameda and East Bay chiropractors certified in CBP, the most scientific, researched and results-oriented corrective chiropractic technique.
